Introduction to Raag Bhimpalas

Key Features of Raag Bhimpalas:

  • With komal Ga and Ni, this raag belongs to the Kafi thaat.

  • As seen below in the pakad, the descent is non-linear demonstrated by M P G M, M G R S

  • Raag Dhanashree of Bhimpalas ang (distinct from the Dhanashree of Bhairavi ang), which shares the same aaroh and avroh as Bhimpalas, has Pa as its vadi. While Pa is a nyaas note in Bhimpalas, frequent pauses on Pa can create confusion with Dhanashree.

  • Raag Dhani also bears similarities to Bhimpalas, but omits D and R in its avroh.

  • It is a sweet and playful raag that can express romance, as well as devotion.
