Tabla
Tabla is the most commonly used instrument in Hindustani classical music for accompaniment. Because of its versatility, tabla has become the most popular percussion instrument of India. It is used in solo performances as well, apart from being recognized as an accompanying instrument. Tabla consists of two drums: The left drum is the Bayan, and the right is the Dayan. The Bayan produces the bass, and the Dayan produces the treble. The shape of the two drums is different; the Dayan is more cylindrical and is narrower than the Bayan. Both these drums have a layer of goatskin stretched over a clay or metal vessel.
